Honda filed a patent for PCX electric Scooter in India – Details

Honda filed a PCX Electric Scooter patent for the Indian market, while the launch timeline hasn’t been revealed yet.

Honda has last month filed for the trademark of PCX electric Scooter in India, which comes with swappable battery technology and equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack at global markets. PCX is one of the Scooters from the Japanese manufacturer, which has been speculated to debut in India from the brand’s international line-up. The patent suggests that the Scooter could be considered for the Indian market in near future, as the brand laid down its roadmap, which will see coming out 4 electric two-wheelers in early as 2024 and PCX could be one of them.

Also, it should be noted that Suzuki is also working on its Burgman Street electric version for India as well as for global markets, and the test mules have already been seen many times. On the other hand, Honda’s major rivals, TVS, and Bajaj are also working to expand their electric portfolio, while Hero confirmed to be launching a new electric two-wheeler in association with Taiwan Gogoro next year. In the global market, Honda sells PCX in IC-engine, Plug-in hybrids, and electric powertrain options. The electric version has been patented and more likely to be offered with the sole electric powertrain.

Globally sold PCX features, Steeped up a single-piece seat, stylish grab rail, black alloy wheels, and so on. While PCX rides on telescopic front forks and twin-sided rear shocks. The braking is handled by 220 mm front and rear disc brakes, along with a single-channel ABS system. PCX also equipped with a swappable battery pack technology and powered with twin batteries set up, placed under the seat. PCX derives power from a swingarm-mounted AC motor, which develops 4.2 KW at 5,500 Rpm and 18 Nm of torque. The Scooters come with a claimed riding range of 41 km.
