Ford India Private Limited

Ford India Private Limited is a subsidiary of the American automaker Ford Motor. Ford motor was founded by Henry Ford on June 16, 1903 and the company’s main headquarter is located in Dearborn, Michigan. Also, the Indian subsidiary has the headquarter in Sholinganallur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company first came to India in 1926 but shutdown its operation in 1954 bearing losses. Later Ford again started its operations in India October 1995 having the joint venture with Mahindra and Mahindra Limited as Mahindra Ford Limited (MFIL). Later company occupied 72% share in 1998 and renamed it to Ford India Private Limited (FIPL).

Ford India Private Limited launches and Line-up:

Ford India Private Limited brought many vehicles in Indian market including Ford Escort, Ikon, Mondeo. Later in 2004, company launched India’s first crossover vehicle Ford Fusion which was a completely new vehicle in the market. It was a very practical car and the company advertised it as the No-Nonsense-Car and called it the Urban Activity vehicle. Ford also launched Ford Fiesta as sedan and Figo as its hatchback. Company also took the advantage of government sub-4-meter policy and launched the Ecosport in the Indian market. To cover the remaining segment automaker introduced Freestyle and the well-known Endeavour to grab a hold in the market and become the one stop destination for the customers.

Currently in the early 2021, the American automaker has a line-up of 6 vehicles in the Indian market. From there well known entry level Figo to the muscle car of sports segment Mustang, which had made the presence and impact in the whole wide world. However in the Indian market, company’s crossover Ecosport and the SUV Endeavour are well established cars which attract a lot of attention of the enthusiasts.
