Last year was the toughest year for all the industry including automobile, vehicle sales hit a rock hard to the bottom as there were no demands and the production plants were also closed due to the pandemic. Thankfully, post lockdown the demand for the vehicle steadily increasing, but now the supply is a little short. As the demand for new cars increasing in the Indian market, the waiting period for some vehicles also increasing with it. Below 5 cars with the highest waiting period in the Indian market as of March 2021: –

The Second-generation Thar was launched in the Indian market back in October 2020, and the SUV was an immediate hit among the buyers. In the first week of the launch, the vehicle garnered 40,000 bookings and 2 lakh queries combining both at dealerships as well as on the online portal. Although, the brand has run their plant at full capacity still the waiting period is 9 months for the car, it is due to the global shortage of semiconductor chips poses a huge challenge to that.

Hyundai Creta is the bestselling SUV of the Indian market, thanks to the New generation launch last year in March 2020. Due to high demand, the vehicle has a waiting period of 9 months for base E trim, and other variants aren’t too quick to be delivered, other higher variants have a waiting period of up to 3 months as well.

  • Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (up to 8 months)

 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the best-selling MPV in the domestic market, courtesy of low running cost and lower production cost as well as the bigger interior. Due to which the demand for the MPV is quite strong, and the waiting period reaching up to 8 months for selected variants in some cities.

Nissan Magnite was launched in the Indian market back in December 2020, and the response towards the SUV is tremendous as more than 50,000 bookings were made in the month, starting the third shift by the company at their production plant to meet the rising demand. The waiting period currently for the selected variants is up to 6.5 months in the selected cities across the Indian market.

  • Kia Sonet (up to 5 months)

Kia Sonet was the third car from the Korean brand, which was launched last year. It is the most versatile compact SUV in the market till now, as it offers more than 3 engine options and four transmission gearboxes as well to choose from. As for the demand for Sonet, HTE base trim is very high and the waiting period for the car is up to 5 months as of March 2021, in some cities.
