The introduction of BS6 emission norms by the Government of India was a huge and unexpected turn of event in the Indian automobile industry which led the automobile market to a steep decline in sales. And this decision forced the automobile sector in a state of dilemma from choosing between whether to still go for both petrol and diesel offering of stick to only diesel offerings, as the price gap between the BS6 petrol variant cars and the BS6 diesel variant cars will be broadened up which might make the customer lose interest in the diesel version of the affordable car segment which will no longer be so affordable.
Due to the application of new norms, many car manufacturers turned their blind eye towards the Diesel variants for the lower price segment cars while some stayed true to their goals and offered both petrol and diesel variants for all of their offerings. Today we analyze this change of events are let’s see how much has the situation changed after about two years.
Taking into account the sales of February 2021, which recorded an 83.2% sale of only petrol cars compared to a significantly low percentage of 16.8% sale share of diesel cars. Even here Maruti shined on top of the list for their sales of 1,44,761 units amongst which 100% of them were petrol cars, whereas for the diesel cars M&M (Mahindra & Mahindra) stood on top of the list obtaining a diesel car share of 87.4% and a petrol car share of 12.6%. for the rest of the company here’s a list of the percentages.
