Ford India Completely separated from Mahindra India – Report

As a joint venture Ford India supposed to take powertrains from Mahindra for their SUV; like EcoSport and Upcoming C-SUV.

The Mahindra and Ford Joint venture was called off earlier this year due to global financial crises. Now the American manufacturer going to work on its own for new powertrains and products for the future footprint of their cars in the Indian market. Earlier, Ford India will be using Mahindra powertrains to their SUV like EcoSport and upcoming C-segment SUV. Ford was earlier looking to launch their two new SUV in the Indian market with an engine sourced from Mahindra, but due to the crisis, it won’t happen any time soon from the American manufacturer.

A new report from ETAuto suggests that ford has asked its partners or vendors to stop working on their two new projects SUV BX744 and BX772 till august 2021, as the finalization of a new powertrain for their products is made. The report also that the new SUVs will be made internally using their own available sources. It should be noted that Shifting from Mahindra powertrains to their owns will delay their production-ready versions of their SUV for more than a year. The BX772 model SUV will rivals with segment head of the Mid-Size SUV, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos, while BX744 will be a Sub-4m Compact SUV. Both these model’s launch was earlier expected on 2022-23, but as of now, it could be delayed more than six months.

Ford also re-evaluating their engines for its upcoming C-Segment SUV, which was earlier going to use the New-Generation XUV500 powertrain. But now the manufacturer could launch one of their own products instead of Mahindra’s offering. Now the $800 Million funds that were originally allocated for JV by ford will now be used for independent operations, as well as for boosting their operations in the Indian market. On the other hand, Mahindra funds could be used in the electrification of their own electrification of products for the future. Ford planned to use Mahindra’s G12 powertrain for their new Updated EcoSport, but the updated EcoSport will be using the brand’s Dragon drivetrains.
