Mahindra is making highlights all around this month, first with the discontinuation of the Alturas G4, next with the breakup between Ford and Mahindra, then came the news of its upcoming car XUV700 which will be coming in a few weeks, then came the news of the carmaker filing a trademark for the name XUV900 which will be Mahindra replacement for Alturas G4 and now the company again is seen filing a trademark for the name XUV400 which might be its new rival for the best-selling SUV Hyundai Creta.
As described by the company earlier, that Mahindra now will only be focusing on its Indian made SUV, and will cut its paths from sedan, hatchback or and compact SUV segment, and will be working its hardest to regain its lost market share for the domestic sales.
There were many speculations for a mid-size SUV plan from Mahindra but where no decent proof for it, but with the trademark file for XUV400 this speculation got a much-awaited proof. However, the car won’t be a direct competition for the top SUV sellers like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, but a tad bit lower than that, as by going by its name XUV400, the upcoming car will be sitting comfortably in a tiny spot between the XUV300 and XUV700.
And there are also some speculations that the XUV400 might get inspiration from the Ssangyong Tivoli which is also a similar sized car which can sit perfectly between then XUV300 and XUV700. The car might also get a similar offering engine as the new Mahindra Thar which is a 2.2-diesel and 2.0-petrol engine, the same transmission offering.
It will be interesting to know, what will be the end result of XUV400 and with the XUV500 discontinuation, followed by introduction of a much premium XUV700, it will also be an interesting car to look for in a next few month.
