The current Indian Automobile market is an SUV dominant market with a majority of the company only focusing on their SUV models, and even since the start of 2021 we only have seen the launches of various cars in the SUV segment except for the luxury line-up like the new Tata Safari, Renault Kiger, Jeep Compass and many more such. Even in this SUV segment, the most competitive segment is the compact sub-4-meter SUV segment.
However, Maruti Suzuki the largest carmaker in the Indian automobile market does feel a bit left out with the only offering of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza which by the way starts at a base price of Rs. 7.39 lakh which as of now is majorly undercut by two of the fairly new entries the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. To overcome this wide gap Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce a new compact SUV which will be priced just below the Vitara Brezza for the company’s lineup.
It was a leak last year that a new compact SUV – codenamed YTB will be built which will share the same platform as the current Maruti Baleno and would carry a crossover kind of design. And will be powered by the same 1.2-liter dual jet engine as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. This engine will be capable of producing a max power output of 90 PS and max torque output of 113 Nm and will be coupled with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed CVT gearbox. But it is to know that none of these details has yet been revealed by the company so isn’t 100% guaranteed.
As the new codename, YTB will be sharing the same platform as that of Baleno, the company will be saving quite a sum due to less change in production designing, which will be further reflected on the finished produced will be undercut many of its competition like Kia Sonnet and Hyundai Venue hence will be competing with the likes of the new Kiger and Magnite.
