New Gen Mahindra thar recorded more than 6,500 bookings in December 2020

 2nd generation Mahindra thar production has been ramped up to meet the growing demand. From which 50 percent of the total sales coming from the Automatic variant

Mahindra and Mahindra introduce the New generation Thar on the 2nd of October 2020, with the starting price of Rs 9.81 lakhs (ex-showroom). New-gen thar was the finest launches in 2020, and certainly the company making benefits out of it. The Off-Roader transformed into a lifestyle product in its new generation.  The New generation is based on the new platform with increased dimensions, with more upmarket interior design and features. With the bookings are rising, the brand admits that they were not expecting the new product from the off-roader to do this big.

The new generation thar already past the 20,000 milestone mark within the debut month, and still getting more and more bookings. In the last month of 2020, the vehicle has got 6,500 bookings. The Administrator said that they have doubled their current production capacity to meet the demand criteria, also more than 50 percent of the bookings were coming for the automatic variants. In December Mahindra retailed 16,182 units of Thar as against 15,691 units last year in the same month, with 3 percent year-on-year positive sales growth. The engine options remain the same as the earlier running model.

The powertrains offer a, 2.2 Litre mHawk 4-cylinder diesel engine, which burns out 130 PS of maximum power and 300 Nm of peak torque for manual transmission and 320 Nm of torque for automatic transmission gearbox. And a 2.0 Litre mStallion 4-cylinder petrol unit, which generates 150 PS of maximum power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties are performed by a standard 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed torque convertor for the top trims. The four-wheel drive is available as standard across all the variants. Also, the cherry on top new generation Thar awarded with a 4-star safety rating at the Global NCAP crash test which was done under the #safercarsforindia campaign.
