After months of teasing Volkswagen has finally revealed its midsize SUV the Volkswagen Taigun, which will go on sale in this coming month. Along with Taigun, Volkswagen has also revealed its five-seater version of the Volkswagen Tiguan which will be priced a bit higher than the former with a more powerful engine. The Taigun will be introduced in a very competitive segment which is ruled by the best-selling SUV Hyundai Creta and some of the very strong rivals like Kia Seltos, Tata Nexon, Tata Harrier, and the upcoming Skoda Kushaq.
The Volkswagen Taigun SUV is based on the India 2.0 project which is purely built for the Indian market and the Indian market, the best example of it is the use of the MQB A0 IN platform which is a highly localized platform that uses almost 92% of the made in India products and is also shared by the Skoda Kushaq which also falls under the same project. The basic concept of the car was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and interestingly the final production-ready model does look almost identical to the former.
Talking about the overall design of the car which gives a bold yet elegant vibe to the exterior with its hexagonal blacked-out grille with three horizontal chrome slats like the Tiguan and with the Volkswagen VW logo at the centre, for the headlamps the car gets a dual projector lamp treatment with integrated LED DRLs inside the housing, the bumper gets a modern look with chrome fog lamp housing, a large air damps at the centre of the bumper, and a faux skid plate below. For the sides the car gets an elegant treatment with fine character lines, electrically foldable and adjustable ORVMs with embedded LED turn indicators, grey coloured roof rails, a chrome-finished window line, a newly designed dual-tone machined cut alloy wheels, and a black coloured side body claddings.
And as for the rear the Volkswagen Taigun SUV gets a new C-shaped taillight which runs along from one end to another, a roof-mounted spoiler and rear stoplight, and lastly a rear faux skid plate.
As for the engine, the car gets two options to choose from 1 being the standard 1.0-litre 3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre 4 cylinder petrol engine, which will be coupled with either a 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission and a 7-speed DSG optional gearbox.
