There was a time when sedans were considered as the epitome of luxury and the sales of these cars were blooming day and night, but long have goes its days of domination where there wasn’t anyone to give much of a competition to this segment and now has come to the era of SUVs which has outclassed the sedan segment in every other was possible be it power, luxury, comfort and even off-roading capabilities. The sales of the sedan segment now when compared to its pre-SUV era is straight garbage. However, it isn’t the case for some of the sedans and to be precise only one of the sedans which many would have already guessed but for the rest, here is the list of Top 10 Sedans currently available in India.
Many would have already guessed the number 1 spot holder on this list, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire which is also the sedan version of the best-selling hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Swift. This sedan is the only sedan that can even give any competition to any best-selling SUV or Hatchback car. The Dzire has been the most sold sedan for quite a long time and as of now is retailed at a starting price of Rs.5.98 lakh for the base trim and goes up to Rs. 9.02 lakh for the top feature-rich trim. As for the powertrain 1.2-litre Dual jet 4-cylinder Petrol engine, and also comes with an option of 5-speed Manual transmission to a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Many would be amazed seeing the Honda Amaze at the second spot on the list, interestingly Amaze is also the best-selling car in the Honda line-up. It gets the majority of its design inspiration from its elder sibling Honda City, however, unlike the latter one, Amaze’s design doesn’t go well with everyone’s taste. For the specs of the car, Amaze comes with two different engine and fuel options to choose from which are the 1.2-litre i-VTec 4-cylinder Petrol, and a 1.5-litre i-DTec 4-Cylinder Diesel Engine. Hyundai Aura is the sedan version of the second best-selling Hyundai car, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and also the replacement for the Hyundai Xcent. The Aura is one of the recent launches of Hyundai compared to others and is retailed at a price range from Rs. 5.97 lakh to Rs. 9.35 lakh and also comes in two different engine options of 1.2-litre 4-cylinder kappa Petrol engine and 1.2-litre U2 CRDi 3-Cylinder Diesel Engine.
Honda City has been in the Indian market for over two decades and has gained a major fan following amongst a large audience. The car unlike the above entries comes in a premium sedan segment and so are its features and styling that makes you stand out from a mile away. As of right now the Honda City is being retailed in India in both 4th Gen model as well as 5th gen model, and considering the latest model which is priced at Rs. 11.02 lakh till Rs. 14.97 lakh and comes with two fuel options first being the 1.5litre 4-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine and the other being a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder i-DTEC Diesel engine.
Hyundai verna is clearly one of the best-looking sedans in the premium sedan segment and is also the Indian car of the year 2018 winner which not only looks good but also feels and performs like a premium car. Currently, the Hyundai Verna is retailed at a price tag of Rs. 9.20 lakh and goes up to Rs. 15.26 lakh. The car is available in three different power variations, the first being the 1.0-litre 4-cylinder kappa turbo Petrol engine, the second the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder MPi Petrol engine and lastly, the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder U2 CRDi Diesel engine.
The only Tata Sedan present in the Indian market is the cute looking Tata Tigor which in April 2021 sold a total of 1,627 units and was placed at the 6th position as the best-selling sedan of the month. The car is sold at a price tag of Rs. 5.59 lakh and goes up till Rs. 7.74 lakh. The Tigor is available in only 1 variant which is a 1.2-litre Revotron 3-cylinder turbocharged Petrol engine.
Ciaz is one of the lowest selling cars the Maruti currently is producing however, the company hasn’t had any luck in their premium segment be it Ciaz or the old Kizashi. As of April 2021, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,567 units and is retailed at a price tag of Rs. 8.51 lakh till Rs. 11.5 lakh. The car comes in a single-engine option of a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder K15 Smart Hybrid Petrol engine.
Skoda Rapid or identical twin of the Volkswagen Vento is the best selling Skoda car in the Indian market which is sold at a price range of Rs. 7.80 lakh and goes up till Rs. 13.3 lakh. The Rapid is available in a single powertrain option, which is the 1.0-litre 4-cylinder TSI turbocharged Petrol engine and soon will be replaced by another sedan whose name hasn’t been revealed by the company yet but will be built on the MQB A0 IN platform.
Toyota Yaris is the low selling car of the company which is being replaced by the new rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and will be called the Toyota Belta in the near future. The Yaris as of now is retailed at a price range of Rs. 9.16 lakh and goes up to Rs. 14.6 lakh and is available in only a single powertrain option of a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder Dual VVT-i Petrol engine.
Ford Aspire is the compact sedan sold by the American company Ford. The car is pretty well known for its ford authentic design and comes with two powertrain options, which are – 1.2-litre Ti-VCT 3-cylinder Petrol engine and a 1.5-litre TDCi 4-cylinder Diesel engine. And is sold at a starting price of Rs. 7.24 lakh and goes up till Rs. 8.70 lakh.
