Skoda Auto India

Skoda Auto India is a subsidiary of the German Automobile manufacturer Volkswagen Group. It was initially a Czech Automotive manufacturer headquartered in Mlada Boleslav, Czech. It was founded in 1895 and was formerly known as Laurin and Klement. In 1925, it was acquired by Skoda works from where it got its name and is known as Skoda till date. This company also contributed in World war II and became state owned company in 1948. The German automobile giant Volkswagen group involved in its operation since 1991. By 2000, Skoda became the subsidiary and was completely owned by the Volkswagen group. In 2017, it reached the second position in Volkswagen group in terms of profit margin. By 2018, it was expanded in over 100 countries and sold over 1.25 million units in the global market.

Skoda Auto India: About Company, Line-up and more

Skoda Auto India Private Limited entered Indian market in November 2001. They setup their headquarter in Aurangabad, Maharashtra and also has the manufacturing plant in Aurangabad. The company launched Octavia as their first car in India in 2002. This car was being produced locally at the Aurangabad plant. This car became the instant hit and gave company the required push and stability in the Indian market. In 2019, Volkswagen merged three of its subsidiaries Volkswagen Group sales India Pvt. Ltd., Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. And Skoda Auto India Pvt. Ltd. Into one entity known as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. which is now headquartered at Pune, India.

Currently, Skoda Auto has three cars line-up in the Indian market Rapid, Octavia and Superb. Soon the new Koshaq is going to add in its line-up which might launch in second quarter on 2021. All these cars are launched in Sedan segment and also all of them are domestically produced. While the Rapid is the entry level sedan the other two are more-premium and luxury cars from the company.
