Skoda Rapid CNG version going to launch in the domestic market

Skoda Rapid CNG version going to launch in the Indian market, confirmed by the Zac Hollis director of sales at Skoda India

Skoda India limited planning to launch four new products in the domestic market, with the first Kushaq revealing on 18th March 2021. Recently, the official sketches have been revealed by Skoda India. Apart from Kushaq Skoda India is working on launching a rapid CNG version, which was recently confirmed by Zac Hollis Director for Skoda Auto India private limited. It happened when some Twitter user asked Zac Hollis about when Crenzh republic manufacturer going to launch CNG-powered rapid in the Indian market and stating more other concerns as well. On which Zac Hollis replied to the query “Yes”, stating that Rapid CNG already in a testing state.

No exterior changes expected with CNG version

Although, as of now we expected the CNG Kit in the Sedan rapid, as test mule already be seen on the roads last year. The fact to be noted that the Octavia CNG version is also being sold at some international markets named G-TEC, lets see how it makes way to India. It has also been expected that the CNG powerplant could be used by Volkswagen as well in cars like polo and Vento with their turbocharged petrol variants. Currently, Skoda retails Rapid with a 1.0 liter turbocharged inline 3-cylinder petrol motor unit. The engine is capable enough to develop 110 PS of maximum power and 175 Nm of peak torque, paired with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The CNG version of rapid could get a 1.0 Litre inline 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit with only an additional CNG Kitt. Although the power output and torque could go relatively low, the vehicle gets a significant increase in combined Fuel Economy. The launch of the CNG version will help Rapid to overcome and fill the void of discontinuation of diesel variants last year. Last year Volkswagen and Skoda decided not to upgrade their BS-4 compliant powerplant to BS-6 due to which many diesel models have been discontinued.
