Although all the commercial vehicles are already came installed with a GPS tracking device, the government has to think of a way to install this technology on old vehicles as well. This new technology will be revolutionary but also raises a few concerns as well for the citizens as well as for the governing authorities. Firstly, the government tracking a person’s location is blatant of privacy of a person. Secondly, there will be a huge concern for the safety of data record of a person and Aadhar card data breach in the past has showcased the weakness of the data in government hands. Also, the fate of fast tag technology is still uncleared with this new technology.

For FY2020-21, the minister of road and transport expects the toll collection to reach Rs 34,000 crore, and the GPS-enabled system, toll income will be expected to raise Rs 1,34,000 crore. The fate for the fast tag was still uncleared by the union ministry, as they have a mandatory fast tag on each and every vehicle from 1st January 2021. That said, the deadline for this has been extended multiple times now, and a lot of people have been reluctant to switch to this automatic, electronic mode of payment.
