In the first month of the calendar year 2021, the Maruti Suzuki Alto hatchback finished at the top with recorded 18,260 units last month against 18,914 units in the same period in Jan 2020, with a 3.45 percent Year-on-year sales decline. Out of the top 10 hatchbacks, Tata Altroz becomes the highest gainer with 64 percent positive sales growth on a year-on-year basis. In the top out of 5 cars, 4 cars are from Maruti Suzuki. The compact hatchback Swift finished at second position with total cumulative sales of 17,180 units in Jan 2021, against 19,981 units with 14.1 percent negative sales growth compared with Jan 2020.
Another hatchback from Maruti, Wagon-R finished at third position records 17,165 units last month against 15,232 units in Jan 2020, with 12.69 percent positive sales growth on a YOY basis. Out of the Top 10 hatchback 6 cars from the Maruti Suzuki underlining their significance of brand in the Indian market top segment, the largest carmaker in the country.

The Baleno finished at fourth position registered 16,648 units last month against 20,485 units in Jan 2020, with an 18.73 percent decline in sales on YOY. The Grand I10 Nios debuted in 2019, and well received by customers, last month it garnered 10,865 units against 8,774 units during the same period in 2020, with 24 percent positive sales growth. Recently launched third-generation i20 finished at sixth position with 8,505 units last month against 8,137 units in Jan 2020, with 5 percent sales growth on a YOY basis.
Tata Altroz finished at seventh position with top gainer in the hatchback segment. Altroz registered 7,378 units last month against 4,505 units in the same period in 2020, with 64 percent sales growth YOY. The Celerio finished at eighth positions, manages to sell 6,963 units last month against 6,236 units during the same period 2020, with 12 percent sales growth. Tata Tiago registered 6,909 units in Jan 2021, against 4,313 units during the same period in 2020, with 60 percent positive sales growth. Maruti Suzuki S-presso finished at 10th position with 6,893 units and a 1 percent decline in sales.
