May 2021 wasn’t the best month for Toyota Kirloskar Motors as the company registered some massive sales drop in that month however after every dark night there comes a bright day and that’s what happened last month where the carmaker Toyota registered sales of 8,801 units in June 2021 compared to that of the sale of only 707 units for the month of May 2021, translating to a massive MoM growth of 1145%. While the YoY growth stood at 128% when compared to the sale of 3,866 units in June 2020.
The top seller for last month turned out to be Toyota Innova Crysta, followed by Glanza, Urban Cruiser and the new 2021 Fortuner. The sales for the last 6 months (January – June) this year stood at 59,323 units while for last year’s 1st half these sales stood at 28,686 units, translating to a 107 per cent improvement.
The important thing to keep in mind when looking at the sales of May 2021 is that apart from the state-wise lockdown placed over Karnataka that halted the production of the Bidadi plant in Karnataka the carmaker earlier also announced the Annual maintenance which lasted between the 26th April 2021 to 14th May 2021, at this time there was zero production of any car.
Although the second wave of the pandemic hasn’t ended yet, the company has been allowed to work under strict pandemic norms which have led the company to work at 50% workforce only, which although isn’t enough for the company but better than fully halting the production.
To prevent any of their workers the company is also concentration on the vaccination of the workers and their family members, till date almost 96% of the total working staff of the plant has received the first dose of the vaccine, this percentage also includes the workers who are working from home.
